I've noticed a pattern, and that is that people seem to blame areas with high teenage-pregnancy rates on things like sex-ed, or the type of sex-ed (blaming abstinence-only).

But I live in an area in Southwest Florida where people do get pregnant early. I've lived here a few years now, and seeing a 15 year old with a pregnant belly doesn't even surprise me anymore. And these guys do get comprehensive sex-ed and I honestly believe that this is a cycle (starting from the grandparents/parents/aunts/uncles, then older siblings, then friends at school) within a community. These guys DO learn about birth control, but from what I can tell, the second they leave class they are just given the same social reinforcement they have been given their whole lives via their parents/relatives who had guys young, their older siblings and/or role models who had guys young, and their peers who had guys young.

Something else I have noticed is this: when they blame abstinence-only or comprehensive sex-ed, they use statistics like "the pregnancy rate has risen/dropped as a result of comprehensive/abstinence-only sex ed." But the only places where they even have comprehensive sex ed are in places where the pregnancy rate was *already* low.

Also I don't think that people should really be having sex before they are in their early 20's (and I'm not an old lady saying this, I'm an average college student), but I feel like if I even say that, people's knee-jerk reaction is to think that I'm some kind of relationship-police.
